Unprecedented rainfall which occurred during the period from 10-12 August 2011 severely affected the southern districts of Sindh Province. The downpour/intensity of rain varied in various parts of Sindh, resultantly affecting Districts of Badin, Tando Mohammad Khan, Mirpurkhas severely where rainfall was recorded up to 400 mm, while the district of Tharparkar (Mithi) and Tando Allah Yar were moderately affected. Large areas of affected districts were inundated, causing damage to standing crops.

Moreover, the majority of houses in Badin, Mirpurkhas and Tando Muhammad Khan were also inundated. The situation further compounded due to the number of breaches in all irrigation canals and Left Bank Outfall Drain (LBOD), thereby making it imperative that relief efforts to be undertaken at a fast pace in order to provide maximum possible assistance to the affected.
